Cleveland Hostel Poems by Vladimir Swirynsky

Vladimir Swirynsky started writing at the age of 45 after spending two weeks at Mardi Gras. He has read to the homeless, the elderly, battered women and veterans of foreign wars (this brings him satisfaction). Someday Vlad hopes to move out West, wherever his car decides to break down, hopefully in Arizona near a drive-in theatre.

I Stood There Once
      — Excerpt —

“Years later
it would all come full circle,
men’s faces fading like
the poor soil of gentleness—
muted like the color of stone,
the nights coming alive
with candles and torch lit sorrow.

“Today I walk the seven acres
of the AIDS memorial in broken
silence, drowning in a river
that swallows all things.”
